Summary

Sanitary pads assistance is about helping poor girls and women affected by the Southern Cameroon crisis in our focus communities,  with menstrual materials. They use all sorts of dirty materials some even use plantain leaves to hold their menstrual flow because they cannot afford sanitary pads. Such materials like rags from dustbin plantain leaves is unhygienic and often gives them infections. We stock pads for their monthly collection and teach them how to make/take care of reusable pads which is cheaper for them.

The high cost of menstruation sanitary materials is so high that girls from poor background cannot afford hygienic sanitary materials like pad, and monthly menstruation is unavoidable. They dig holes to sit on, keeps dripping blood without using anything to hold the flow. They are vulnerable to men that take advantage of providing money to buy pads to molest them. Girls and Women who sleeps in bushes are at high risk and needs assistance of pads.

Solution

We Stock sanitary pads for monthly collection of girls in our data base. We also teach them how to make reusable pads themselves to last them for a year or more. Provision of sanitary pads and teaching them how to make reusable pads will help them have a hygienic menstruation and reduce infections and risk behaviours associated with raising money monthly to buy sanitary pads.

Long-Term Impact

This project will give 5000 women clean and hygienic menstrual life, keep girls, free from infections UTI, STI, HIV , early marriage as a result of early pregnancy while looking for money for pads. It will also equip them with skill of making reusable pads for themselves, family, community, also means of livelihood by making and selling the pads. It will give them leverage of not worrying how to get money for pad monthly.
